The Morning Daddy Went Back to Work

For the past week Daddy has been home with us on the first of his summer vacation weeks. We totally enjoyed him being home with us and had a great time. We went to the zoo, swam at the rec and rode our bikes all over the neighborhood. He puttered around the house each day, dodging raindrops if necessary to help me finish putting in our vegetable and flower plants, redoing landscaping, fixing bikes, rearranging the shed and fixing up the outside of the house. He was even painting last evening as I was packing his lunch for him as we both worked through the sadness that comes with having to go back to work. We even told Laura last night before bed that Daddy wouldn't be here when she woke up but he'd be home at his normal time. It didn't seem to phase her.

Until this morning.

She was up bright and early at 6:30. She and I cuddled in bed and read books for awhile before the boys got up and started their day. By 8 as Matthew's class was starting, we were all back to our usual routine. At 9:30 Laura came to me and said "Where's Daddy?" I reminded her that he had to go back to work today. She said "He dode to work because he wuvs us" and then paused a minute and said "Did he take the bus?" I nodded yes. Then she put her little finger up to her cheek and thought a minute.

Then her face brightened and she said "I ready for my nap." I worked very hard to keep my jaw from dropping and said "Are you tired? Are you ready for a nap already?" She smiled and shook her head yes. Then she said "Daddy will be home when I wake up. I do take my nap now." I started chuckling. Each and every day when we lay her down for her nap at 2 she says "Daddy will be home when I wake up". And most of the time he is.

I only wish it were that easy. I love having Daddy home and I'd willingly take a nap each and every morning at 9:30 AM if I knew he'd be home when I woke up. :)

That is so sweet! Reminds me of my girls, they can't wait for daddy to get home from work. My youngest is two and she will randomly come up to me in the day and ask where daddy is.
